Miller's Nautical Big Boy Room Plan

I've been meaning to share this plan for a few weeks now and I'm finally getting around to it today.  Miller's big boy room re-do has been a long time coming!  When we moved into this house two years ago Miller had just turned two and had just moved from his crib to a toddler bed.  We didn't plan to keep him in the toddler bed long but he ended up loving it so we didn't make any changes.  Shortly after turning three and right before we moved out for our first floor renovation we upgraded him to a twin bed hoping it would help with his still consistent sleep issues.  Long story short, it didn't.

When we moved back into our house in April I decided that for his 4th birthday Miller needed a complete room makeover.  The poor kid had been living with a half put together room since we moved in and it was time to get the room completed.

So here is the inspiration board I put together.  We have already ordered all of his furniture and some of the bedding.  We still need mirror, curtains, and decor.  Miller is really into dinosaurs and sharks so I decided to stick with his ongoing nautical theme from his nursery but incorporate sharks into it, to keep him happy.

Here is what Miller's room currently looks like right when you walk into it.  I can't even believe I'm showing you these because it looks so bad right now. We never re-hung his curtains after we moved back from our rental townhouse and I didn't hang many things back up on the wall either.   Pretty much everything you see in these pictures below is going out of this room.

Ignore the random trampoline in the corner, that finally moved to the basement

Here it is from the other side of the room:

The white dresser was his changing table but it was just becoming a catch all for clean laundry and I don't need the storage so that is going.

Then here is looking from the wall where is bed is:

I want to try to keep his one year old portrait in the room somewhere, but it may end up moving to a blank wall in our room.

The navy blue dresser was my grandmother's and I painted it when I was pregnant with Miller. It was a true labor of love, as it needed like 100 coats of paint, but unfortunately it can't stay in his room.  The drawers are so old and constantly get so stuck that Miller can't even open them.  Half the time I have a hard time too.   We're trying to encourage independence with dressing himself and putting clothes away but it's impossible when he can't even use his own dresser. I'm so sad to see it go from his room but I know it a good decision in the long run :(

We decided that any furniture we purchased we wanted to last him until he moved out for college.  I fell in love with the Jameson bedroom set from RH baby and child and knew it would be perfect to fit with the navy blue and red accents I wanted.  The nautical looking mirror is also from there.   The curtains, sheets, and striped duvet are all from Pottery Barn Kids.  The monogrammed sham is too but I haven't decided if I want those or a big monogrammed lumbar pillow.    We also ordered him a bookcase where I will store his books, toys, and more little decor knickknacks.
Jameson Bedroom Set in Antiqued Natural: RH Baby & Child
Shark Sheets: Pottery Barn Kids
Navy Blackout curtains: Pottery Barn Kids
Shark Wooden Wall Art: Target
Wood Oars: Target
Striped Duvet Cover: Pottery Barn Kids
Monogrammed Shams: Pottery Barn Kids
Red Table Lamp:  Target

So there you have it!  I'm hoping to have the room completed before we head to the beach in two weeks but we'll see.  It's been so fun working on it and having Miller see the progress and get excited.
