Wedding Songs
I heard on the radio today the top 20 songs played at weddings and it got me thinking back to our wedding songs. ( There are some on this list that make me think Seriously? You can see the full list here.)
When I was getting married choosing the right songs for the reception was one of the hardest parts! I was so worried about picking the right song for the right moment with the right lyrics. I definitely over thought each song and lyric. I wanted my songs to speak to us as a couple but I also didn't want to choose a song that EVERYONE had already used and was considered a "wedding song" or a song that was currently trendy or mainstream because I wanted them to last. As you can see I just made it harder for myself.
I figured some one you that are getting married might be in the same predicament so I wanted to share what we choose for our songs for the "big moments" during our wedding. (I thought I shared these back when I got married in 2009 but I can't find the post so maybe I didn't)
1. Bridal party introductions into the reception- "Superstitious" by Stevie Wonder (this one was an inside joke with our friends from college and the perfect intro for our group)
2. Bride & groom intro into reception- "You're my Best Friend" by Queen
3. First Dance- "Feels like Home" by Chantal Kreviazuk ( this song was in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and it's one of my absolute favorite love songs)
4. Father/Daughter dance- "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong
5. Mother/Son dance- "In my Life" by the Beatles
6. Last song of the evening- "Take me Home Tonight" by Eddie Money
Through out the reception we played the typical Don't Stop Believing, Let's get Married, Cupid Shuffle, Billie Jean, and token slow songs for the crowd to enjoy.
So what songs did you play for the big moments of your wedding, or if you're not married yet are there any songs that you have to have played at your wedding?

Oh my gosh - our song is Feels Like Home - and I thought no one had heard of this!!! I randomly heard it on Pandora...didn't even know it was in that movie.
ReplyDeleteGreat song ideas, we are still putting ours together, so this was definitely helpful. The groom loves the Beatles, so I'll definitely suggest In My Life for mother/son dance.
a peek of chic
I love your first dance song!! The one thing my husband insisted on for our wedding was an 80s cover band so we found an absolutely amazing one and it was the best decision we could have made! {People still talk about them almost 5 years later!) Our friends knew all the songs and the older generation found them a fun band to dance to. In hindsight though, I would have chosen a different 1st dance song. We did 'Wonderful Tonight' {"our song" wasn't the most appropriate wedding song!} but I instead would have gone with U2 'All I Want is You' - that's the song the band chose as the last song and it was just beautiful and touching so I now think of that as "our song."
ReplyDeleteLOVE your first dance song, too! I obviously have a ways to go before I'm married, but that will be a lot of fun picking out songs!
ReplyDeletelove this! i am in the beginnings of getting our playlist musts, absolute NOs, etc. together for our dj...love the beatles for mother, son :) XO brynn
ReplyDeleteAwww... great songs! "In my life" is such a meaningful song for Dan and me. We even had his sister read some of the lyrics out loud during our reception.
ReplyDeletetake me home tonight is the best last song EVER!!
ReplyDeletei cannot hear "feels like home" and not almost tear up a little...my friends and i lived for dawson's creek in high school, and it was on the soundtrack. and driving home from my best friend's house the night before another bestie and i went off to college listening to that song? OMG THE TEARS. like a crazy person.
and my husband and his groomsmen definitely walked down the aisle to a string quarter version of don't stop believin'. it was EPIC.
I love all of those songs! That one from How to lose a guy in 10 days use to be on my playlist non stop!
ReplyDeleteGreat song choices!
