When we first decided to make a move to a bigger house and sell our current home, leaving behind my dream kitchen, we knew that we wanted something with an old kitchen again. While the actual renovation process can be long and grueling we knew that wanted to be able to make the kitchen ours again with all the little details and designs that we loved in our old house.
So here is our kitchen in it's current state. These are real life actual photos, no staging or fancy-ing them up for you all.
This is the view from standing in our family room looking into the kitchen:
Here is a picture of the wall with our jackets hanging. My parents just gave us the happy home sign with hooks on it for Christmas since we don't have room in our laundry room (which is behind that door on the left) to hang coats when we come in from the garage. At first I wasn't sure I would love it and now I'm so happy we have it! Coats were piling up on our banister and chairs before so it's nice to have a spot for them.
The kitchen has a ton of space and I love the large island and double ovens. I don't like having the cook top on the island though because I can't have the boys sit up there when I cook for fear of one of them burning their hands. When we renovate we will be moving that, just not sure where yet. I didn't think I needed two ovens but I have become so used to it and it makes cooking a big meal a breeze so I may opt for double ovens when we renovate.
Here is the side with our dishwasher, microwave, and refrigerator. The window below looks out to backyard and I have visions of myself watching the boys play out there while I cook dinner when they're older. I would love to widen those windows if possible allow in more light. We do plan on taking the bulk head down when we renovate so I know that will help bring more light in too.
Here is the opposite side of the kitchen. It looks like tons of cabinet space but they're actually really shallow cabinets so we're finding we can't fit as much as we can over here. I use this side for our pantry, baking supplies, and arts and crafts stuff. That little desk you see is usually covered in mail and junk but I've been trying to keep it organized lately. (Ignore the Miller lite and dog bowls ;)
Right now this is my little coffee bar area but I think when we renovate this will be my wine bar area, unless we add one to the dining room. Haven't decided on that yet!
So there you have it, that's our kitchen in our current state. We are hoping to meet with contractors/builders in the next few weeks to get the ball rolling on the renovation and I promise to keep you up to date this time while we renovate! I'm so excited to see what we can do with this large space to make it our own.
Your house has such great bones! Love what you have planned for the future and I'm sure it will be as gorgeous as your last kitchen!
ReplyDeleteYou have so much space and tons of natural light, such a great foundation for when you renovate!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to follow along! We have decided on a contractor for our kitchen renovation so I have been shopping around for countertops, cabinets, etc. It's exciting but I am the worst at making decisions!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to watch the progress!! It has great "bones" to work with. Love the island and those cabinets would be amazing storage if you could figure out a way to make them deeper/bigger. Happy Monday!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great space to work with - I can't wait to see what you do with it! We have a little coffee bar just like that which I love having just for that - our wine bar is in the basement or else we probably would have done it in that same exact space too!
ReplyDeleteThat kitchen has so much potential! Looks like you have a ton of cabinet space which is great. Can't wait to see what you do with it! And I love the 'happy home' coat hanger!
ReplyDeleteThat is an amazing kitchen...can't wait to see what you guys do to it!
ReplyDeleteAhh!! This makes me so excited for you but at the same time scared too! Haha! I've lived through a kitchen reno too & not always easy! But, it will help that you have contractors & stuff I would think!? Excited for y'all though & cannot wait to see the progress & end result!!
ReplyDeletethat kitchen is already so nice and has AWESOME potential - i'm sure you'll do something fabulous with it! can't wait to watch the progress!
ReplyDeleteThis kitchen has amazing bones to work with. I think you'll get such a great reno out of it and with the space being as it is, you won't have as much of a project on your hands as your last house. Definitely keep the double ovens because you will SO miss those when they're gone!!
ReplyDeleteHi. So my mom had a center island with a cooktop on it, and it has a vent that comes up from behind burners...with the vent up it would act as a little wall to protect kids from touching the burners. 😀
ReplyDeleteI love the layout of your kitchen, I agree with other commenters that you have great bones there. Can't wait to see future posts!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great space with so much potential! Wonder if you could move the double wall oven to the side of the kitchen where the shallow cabinets are and then have your cooktop where the current ovens are?
ReplyDeletewhat an amazing space!!! so much room for storage and love the huge island. I would say to keep the double ovens - we use both constantly when I am at my moms... for everyday you may not use both, but its so nice when entertaining!! love it can't wait to see what you do with it!

Just your kitchen now is great, but you're right it definitely needs some changing. I love the open space you have. And the double ovens, half the time!
