Friday Five

TGIF! Are you all happy it's Friday?  I know I am. We might sneak out for a date night this weekend. Woohoo! Thank you all for your comments on yesterday's post.  I am totally not a super mom I can promise you that and not all my days are that easy and there are plenty of days I don't cook or clean and lose my temper all day!
For those that asked... yes my diva goldendoodle Layla drinks out of a cup.  I don't remember when it started but she now refuses to drink water out of a bowl.  #princess #divadog

Here are five things I'm thinking about this week...

1. Essential Oils-  Ok I know these are being hyped all over blogs and instagram but do they really work?  I have a ton of allergies- like I'm allergic to everything and I used to take Zyrtec for years but I haven't been able to take it since having babies because it makes me too drowsy.  Since I'm already pretty tired I don't need something to make me feel worse and a few people suggested essentials oils.  Will they really cure my allergy symptoms?  Are they safe around babies/kids?  If you have tried them I would love to hear your thoughts and hear if they really work. I need to break out of this allergy fog I've been living in.

2. Hiring an Interior Designer-  Our house needs so much help right now and I'm thinking about hiring an interior designer.  I love decorating myself and thought I could do it but lately I just feel blah.  I feel like I can't make a decision or I make a decision and then one week later I'm doubting it and I change everything again.  I think I've changed the pillows in my family room five times since 2015 started.  I would also love someone to bounce my ideas off of who can tell me yay or nay.   I'm not sure if I can afford to go with a traditional designer (depending on the price) but I was thinking about maybe getting design boards made so that I can still do the shopping/feel involved myself.   So does anyone have any suggestions?  Are their any designer or design blogs you love?  I have a few in mind plus I have a few local people I'm considering hiring.  Also if you have any experience working with a designer I would love to hear about it!

3. This Dress- Ever since Annie posted this dress on Wednesday I can't stop thinking about it and dreaming of warm weather.  We are so far from warm weather here but a girl can dream....

4. Wheat Belly-  I don't have any digestive problems that would suggest to me that I have a gluten intolerance but I am intrigued by the idea of eating a gluten free low carb/non-processed/natural diet. As I mentioned above I have a ton of allergies and have always had acne prone skin so I would love to give this diet a try for a month and see if it does anything for either of those ailments.   A lot of people tout the anti-inflammatory benefits of this diet which I think would help with both of my problems.    Has anyone read the book?  I would love to hear your thoughts before I download it.

5.  Sleep!-  This little guy below slept from 11pm-5am last night and Miller slept through the night which means I got SIX STRAIGHT HOURS OF SLEEP.  #lifechanging
I cannot even describe how good I feel today.  I might only need 2 cups of coffee...

Happy Weekend Y'all!

  1. Yay for sleep!! I hope they keep that up for you!! You don't want to get me started on Wheat Belly - life changing! I read it, Josh read it, my mom did, my best friend did. I became obsessed and got everyone g-free, and it has been awesome! I felt so bad after G was born and spent a year bouncing around at doctor's and going gluten free helped me with so many things. If you want to talk more about it email me!! I'm a little crazy about it :)

  3. I'm interested in essential oils and my sister just started using them a few weeks ago. When she was in town this weekend she got rid of my husband's headache in about 5 minutes. I'm thinking about diving into these to get rid of medicine. I'd love to know how they work for allergies because hubby's allergic to several things, especially in the spring.

And on another note, good luck with the interior designer. That would be so fun! Happy weekend, xoxo

  5. I know...I'm in love with that maxi dress too!!! So cute. Its funny you just wrote about wheat belly because I was just in Barnes and Noble this week and was looking for that book. I didn't buy it but I'm very intrigued by it!! Let me know if you decide to buy it! I need some help in the "inner tube" department :) ahah. I'm so glad you got some good sleep last night, gal! Now you're ready to take on the weekend. woohoo

  6. There is nothing better than that first stretch of sleep after having a baby. I hope it lasts! We hired an interior designer to help when we were building our house, and I will say I was very skeptical at first. I didn't think it was worth the money, but I am so glad that we did. I still felt like ultimately I picked everything out, but it was nice to tell someone what your are envisioning and they know where to point you in the right the direction. I think it's totally worth it.

  7. I've heard such great things about essential oils too and am excited to hear what others think. I've heard some people put lavendar oil on their babies' feet to calm them down at night! That would be worth investing in! Congrats on 6 hours of sleep! I am still working on keeping a consistant 5 every night with Cam. Hopefully one day he can stretch it out longer!

  8. I think the oils are kind of BS...Jess looked into them and found all kinds of issues with the FDA, etc. Just the next 'hip' thing from what I can tell. I get changing the diet may help with allergies? I know mine cleared up a bit when I changed mine.
Also, if you want someone to bounce decorating ideas off of I am more then willing to help!

  10. Yay for a restful night! Hope you continue to get those sweet slumbers! I say you should just go for the diet! I haven't done that one specifically but we generally don't eat any wheat based grains or gluten items. It's hard at first but it's life changing. The mental clarity you feel when eating clean is beyond words. I do believe it could help with some of your allergens too. Good luck!

  11. Love the dress. I feel like most maxi dresses aren't flattering but that one definitely would be! Happy Friday!

  12. Yay for sleeping babies!!! I'm seriously not 100% on the essential oils bandwagon yet, but I admit that with Walker's ear infections and constant runny nose, I did buy a couple of small bottles off of Amazon (yay Prime!) to just test it out. I don't know if it's the oils or what, but I have been rubbing a bit of lavender oil on the outside of his ears and down his throat after his bath, and - knock on wood - he hasn't had a runny nose since. Plus, the lavender just makes him smell good and relaxes me as I'm rocking him and sniffing his sweet smell.

  13. sweet baby--a sleeping baby does wonders for mommy. Check out Interior Design Musings (Mandi SmithT). She does e-designs. She's local for me and helped pick out paint colors for my bathroom/bedroom as well as mirrors, lighting, fabric, etc. She is great in helping you pick things that are timeless and affordable. She will send design options with various online stores for you to purchase the items. If she sees a good deal she will let you know that too.

  14. Yay for sleep! A designer - even to get your "plan" in place for everything - would be so helpful I bet. Then you can do the shopping which is always the fun part. Enjoy your weekend :)

  15. WAHOO for sleep. Glorious sleep. We had to take away the swaddle last night for the first time because he's rolling now and I found him busted out of the swaddle with it up around his chin. PANIC. So, we're swaddle-less and hoping for good sleep anyway.

I'm a skeptic when it comes to essential oils. I'm sure they smell nice though.

I'm dreaming of hiring an interior designer. Our family room has such a difficult layout to design around and I'm at my wits end. But I also know they money I spend on one could go towards more furniture/improvements and the budget for such things is small so I don't know... I wish I was more skilled in that department.

  16. I just posted on FB today asking if anyone is using Essential Oils. I'm looking into them myself. I've been doing #whole30 which is clean eating for 30 days. I'm on Day 19 and I feel great. You can google it or use the hashtag on Instagram to see pictures of what people are eating.

  17. Look at your sweet baby!!!! I am obsessed with Mara Hoffman but why does she have to be so crazy expensive!?!?!

  18. Ha! That's too funny about your Diva Layla. Disco still prefers his bowl, but tries to get a sip from my glass of water whenever he can. I've been very curious about essential oils too. I really only have seasonal allergies. Last year, around this time of the year, I started drinking warm lemon water with raw honey each morning and noticed a huge difference once the spring rolled around. I rarely needed to take any Zyrtec. I need a designer too! My favorite design blogs are love Jenna Sue Design's blog and Thrifty Decor Chic. YAY for sleep! I hope they both do it again for you (especially if you get out for a date night).

  19. I've never heard of that book but I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts if you read it or try to go wheat free. I have MS and while I don't have a gluten intolerance there are connections between MS and gluten and thoughts that people will have less symptoms if they take it out. But I have no self control and can't give up foods I love like pizza!!! I also want to try essentials oils to see if it will help w/ my allergies and MS issues. I'm going to buy them from YL next time I have an extra $150 bucks lying around. Haha

  20. Yep - I've been so interested too in essential oils. Some people really swear by them! And if there is something that keeps Camille's runny nose at bay, then I am SOLD :) Yay for good sleep for you! That is the most refreshing feeling.

  21. I went gluten free for about 9 months and noticed a big difference but just couldn't sustain it. We have some friends currently on Whole 30 and they say it's a great way to see what your body can and cannot tolerate and in what kinds of doses. I hope Miller keeps being a great sleeper for you!! Please pick up that dress this week - it would look amazing on you! And what I wouldn't give to hire an interior designer right now...let me know if you find someone who can do some virtual help!
